Partial years — the important point
Do not discard the part-year. Count the eligible service in days, including the first and last day, subtract confirmed non-reckonable days, divide by 365 and round the service figure to two decimal places. Multiply that figure by two and add one bonus week. A service figure of 7.58 therefore produces 16.16 statutory weeks.
What the total can contain
- Statutory redundancy: tax-free and subject to the €600 weekly cap.
- Enhanced or ex-gratia termination payment: potentially eligible for the basic/increased exemption or SCSB, subject to conditions.
- Pay in lieu of notice: shown separately and treated as taxable payroll pay by this calculator.
- Untaken accrued annual leave: shown separately and treated as taxable payroll pay.
- Outstanding wages, bonus or commission: taxable payroll pay.
- Approved expenses: shown separately and not included in the calculator’s tax estimate.
- Qualifying employer-paid retraining: disclosed separately; special conditions apply.
What the calculator does not decide
It does not decide whether a dismissal is a genuine redundancy, whether a selection process is fair, whether collective consultation applies, or whether an absence is legally reckonable. It does not calculate the final PAYE, USC or PRSI on taxable amounts.
